Description
Koryeo poomsae takes its name from the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392), an important period in Korean history, during which the country resisted Mongol invasions and strengthened its national identity.
The name "Koryeo" refers to a spirit of perseverance, determination and strength in the face of adversity, central values in the practice of taekwondo. The warriors of this era, called the Hwarang, are also linked to the history of this dynasty, because they embodied principles of honor, courage, and discipline. Koryeo, as poomsae, therefore symbolizes the power and the will to defend one's principles in the face of challenges, a quality that has allowed Korea to preserve its independence and culture.
