Description
The Hansu poomsae, meaning "Big Water", represents the source that nourishes all living beings. It symbolizes the birth and growth of life, combining robustness and gentleness, tolerance, compatibility and adaptability. The term "Han" has various meanings, such as one, many, large, center, even, full, together, gather, moment and long. It also designates the sky and the root of all things. Thus, the characteristics of water — an unbreakable and indestructible element — are applied to Hansu poomsae. The practice of this poomsae encourages movements as flexible as water and constant as a drop of water constituting a vast sea. The line of movement, or Yeon-Mu Line, of Hansu is represented by the character 水, meaning water, also symbolizing 한가람 (Hangaram), the blood of the nation, and the growth.
